Macintosh PowerBook Duo Floppy Adapter

Introduced in 1992 along with the PowerBook Duo series, the PowerBook Duo Floppy Adapter allows the use of both a Macintosh HDI-20 External 1.4MB Floppy Disk Drive plus an ADB (Apple Desktop Bus) keyboard and mouse by connecting to the computer via a 152-pin PDS (Processor Direct Slot) located on all PowerBook Duo models.

The PowerBook Duo series of Macintosh systems are sub-notebooks with only power, serial and modem ports in addition to the PDS connector. A series of docking stations were released by Apple to supply the full arrangement of ports ranging from a full docking system with Ethernet and NuBus slots, a mini dock with all the ports of a desktop machine and this floppy adapter for easy use of a keyboard and/or floppy disk drive.

The small adapter uses two pins and two clamps to hold onto the PowerBook Duo. The single button lifts the clamps and releases the dock.

The small slot on the side of the unit is for a locking kit. Adding a locking kit prevents you from disconnecting the adapter from the computer. Too bad you can still take the floppy drive as it isn't locked.
